Mark Brooks

Heard the gospel for the first time at 28 in 1986 on a plane ride. Convicted and sad to the point of weeping. Never smoked or drank alcohol since. Went to a Catholic Church and a priest brought him to Jesus. Moved to California because of the friends in Miami. Went to a home group where Steve Backlund was teaching. He was his mentor from then on. 4 years he served at a church and was passionately on fire. Never started High School but went to bible college and was valavictorian.

Met his wife and first time he went to her families house they prayed over the meal in tongues. He was in the first school in 1998 along with his wife.

Three important points to get started in school
Have God-confidence. "And he called to him his twelve disciples and gave them authority over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal every disease and every affliction." - Matthew 10:1
5 These twelve Jesus sent out, instructing them, "Go nowhere among the Gentiles and enter no town of the Samaritans,
6 but go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
7 And proclaim as you go, saying, 'The kingdom of heaven is at hand.'
8 Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse lepers, cast out demons. You received without paying; give without pay. - Matthew 10:5-8

God has given you everything you need in this school. Jesus called all the disciples by name. Jesus knows you. He knows your name, your strengths, weaknesses, past and future.

I say "yes" to God calling me here. You don't want self-confidence, you want God-confidence. You want to know your identity as revealed by the Word of God.

God-confidence is your road map for when you are lost. When you are driving and lost you ask your wife for help. God is after something with all of us. When relationship issues come up or finances are difficult you need to remember today: have God-confidence. God-confidence is your anchor.

2. God doesn't like comparisons. So much comparing going on the room.

1 Cor. 3 the apostles are comparing each other.
So let no one boast in men. For all things are yours, - 1 Corinthians 3:21
22 whether Paul or Apollos or Cephas or the world or life or death or the present or the future-all are yours,
23 and you are Christ's, and Christ is God's. - 1 Corinthians 3:22-23

Notice he left out "past." If our past dictated our future we would never find qualification to do something new.

I don't work for love, I work from love. Break off performance for attaining acceptance.

It's with your mouth that you confess Jesus as Lord, with our minds that align ourselves to lies of bondage, and with our mouths that we break the lies with truth.

Who are you to pass judgment on the servant of another? It is before his own master that he stands or falls. And he will be upheld, for the Lord is able to make him stand. - Romans 14:4

God is looking for a generation who explore His depths under a covering without control. This has to be a free place where nobody looks like another. Break off the desire to be like others for acceptance.

Gifts of the spirit don't work when you have suspicion in your heart.

3. Revival (my favorite subject because it goes along with Jesus)
We came here to become so full of Jesus that we leak. We are a cannonball shot out with full force towards our calling. We need a wave so big that it cannot be stopped. The students who are out changing the world today surrounded themselves with people they needed. You are going to become who you hang out with the most. 1 Cor 15
