Bill Johnson - Mt 16. Revelation of Christ the foundation if the church

Bill Johnson
African revivalist said, "being raised from the dead really changed my life." He went on to raise 36 from the dead. Yesterday a 12 year old was raised in front of 200,000!

Mt 16
13 Now when Jesus came into the district of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, "Who do people say that the Son of Man is?"
14 And they said, "Some say John the Baptist, others say Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets."
15 He said to them, "But who do you say that I am?"
16 Simon Peter replied, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God."
17 And Jesus answered him, "Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven. - Matthew 16:13-17

Jesus is affirming him his ability to hear. When he saw his children do something well he would get their attention and tell them good job, that is the fruit of the spirit!

18 And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven." - Matthew 16:18-19

You can't bind something in time and then bind it in eternity.  Better translations n: "whatever you permit on earth will already be permitted in heaven. Whatever you forbid on earth will be forbidden in heaven"

20 Then he strictly charged the disciples to tell no one that he was the Christ.
21 From that time Jesus began to show his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and on the third day be raised.
22 And Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him, saying, "Far be it from you, Lord! This shall never happen to you."
23 But he turned and said to Peter, "Get behind me, Satan! You are a hindrance to me. For you are not setting your mind on the things of God, but on the things of man." - Matthew 16:20-23

This deals with another aspect of the renewed mind.

"Who do people say that the Son of Man is?" the disciples belonged before they believed. Jesus didn't require them to accept him as Messiah before He chose them. End of Mark 4 where Jesus stills the storm. The disciples ask, "who is this guy?" All of us are in track to get this stuff. It's encouraging to know that the disciples followed without knowing who he was!

Vs 18
"Peter, and on this rock I will build my church" - Jesus is not saying Peter is the rock, but it is the revelation of who Jesus is that creates the foundation upon which the church is built upon.

Here is the revelation if Jesus: "I am" when judas betrayed Jesus the soldiers asked, "we are looking for Judas of Nazareth." Jesus replied, "I am." And they fell down.

"the gates of hell shall not prevail against it." Hell is a place of permanent torment, not a place that Satan moves from. Who is on offense? The church! We live in a green light the district!

At a football game is another player who is out of bounds and calling plays. We shouldn't get defensive and try and stop that out of bounds player! The lion walks about the earth like a roaring lion. Just noise. Jesus says, "all authority has been given to Me!" This means Satan has no authority. The moment someone who has authority agrees with him, Satan is feeding off their authority.

Whatever has been bound on earth will be bound in heaven.

Why did Jesus say, "he strictly charged the disciples to tell no one that he was the Christ." Jesus worked hard to keep the people he loved away from truth that they were not ready for. With knowledge comes greater accountability.

Here's a prophecy that didn't come to pass: "Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him, saying, "Far be it from you, Lord! This shall never happen to you."

Vs 23 Jesus said to Peter, "Get behind me, Satan! You are a hindrance to me. For you are not setting your mind on the things of God, but on the things of man." Humanity without Christ at the center is demonic in nature!

The disciples worried about not having enough food after seeing Jesus multiply food two times. Jesus says, "why do you reason."

Peter said, "you killed the Author of life, whom God raised from the dead. To this we are witnesses." - Acts 3:15

Why is the anti-Christ not called anti-Jesus. It's because the anti-Christ spirit is visible when their is opposition to the anointing.

Jesus gave them power and authority, but after he died Jesus gave them power and authority in the Great Commission.
